Water and Sanitation
Around one-tenth of the world’s population, approximately 700 million people, lack access to clean water. The absence of clean water negatively impacts their daily lives, health, and livelihoods. In regions with limited access to water, people are forced to travel long distances to find water and often have to rely on unsafe water sources.
In addition, nearly 2 billion people consume water that does not meet hygiene standards. These water sources may be contaminated with microbiological and chemical pollutants, leading to serious health issues. Consumption of contaminated water causes various health problems, such as intestinal infections, skin diseases, and parasitic illnesses.
Among the diseases caused by contaminated water, cholera, diarrhea, and typhoid stand out as fatal illnesses. Children, in particular, are vulnerable to these diseases. Every day, approximately 1,000 children die due to contaminated water and inadequate hygiene. These tragic deaths are preventable and can be greatly reduced by ensuring access to clean water.
IN ONE YEAR, WE OPENED 1,167 WATER WELLS
With your support, we have implemented hundreds of projects in 30 countries to provide clean water for hundreds of thousands of people who walk kilometers every day in search of clean water. In 2023, we inaugurated a total of 1,167 water wells.
In addition to our work in 30 countries, we also offer specific water well initiatives, such as share-based water wells and wells dedicated to individuals. For every water well we build, we provide a guarantee period depending on the region, and our local teams regularly inspect and maintain the wells. In case of any required repairs or renovations, immediate action is taken to ensure that the water wells, opened with the support of our donors, continue to serve the community.
